Before I moved to New York, I had dreams of what my life would be like if I got the opportunity to live there; it was my biggest ambition since my sophomore year of high school that always seemed distant and impossible. But as the time drew nearer for me to graduate and work towards my college years, I knew then and definitely know now that my New York aspirations would never have come to fruition if not from my friends and family that stood behind me and supported me the entire way through. Despite any backlash I could’ve ever received from people who didn’t believe in me or my dreams, the ones that believed in me more than even I ever could are what got me here. And despite being in a new place, thousands of miles away from the ones that encouraged me to come, they are the ones I know hold the most meaning to me. So, in case you’re reading, my best friends, Sienna and Katie, and my siblings, Alyssa, Jenna, Kara, and Vašek, I love you and I wouldn’t be here without you. The path here was certainly not easy, but that just meant that by the time I got here, I had nothing but joy, excitement, and thankfulness.
Upon arrival, I was met with such an incredible group of people that had the same ambitions as me and were just as equally exhilarated to be in a city such as New York. Coming from all over the country, even from all around the world, we had all felt called to come to a place like this. While living in a city that you eventually gain familiarity with can perhaps mean the primary elation fades away, nothing about being here, despite any stumbling blocks that may have been thrown in, nothing could ever take away how grateful I am to be living here. Therefore, by finding others that also share that same sentiment is beautiful, and exactly what I hope to capture in this series. The action of clicking a camera may seem juvenile to some, but I truly cannot think of a better way for me to explain to others why I love being in a city such as New York. But living in the city of your dreams gains an entirely different level of meaning when it is met with friendships created in that place. New York is an incredibly amazing city and getting the chance to capture its beauty with those that have that same outlook as me is something that means the entire world to me. The following short film next week will be in hopes of me sharing New York through my lens to you, showing the allure that drew me here, and additionally the joy of friendship that has surrounded me since I've been here, a little bit of everything. I hope that I can encapsulate exactly how it feels to have your life lead up to such an acclimation, and how it feels to finally achieve that. I met New York at exactly the right time, and this video will show what that feels like :) See you next week for the final product of the series!
