Hi everyone! This post will be a bit different, we'll be focusing back on New York and everything it encapsulates. As the weeks go by, there will be a series of posts regarding friendship and the beauty of New York City, ultimately ending in a short film that will capture the essence of what I'll continue to develop. Below is the storyboard to give an introduction to the topic, and following will be an inspiration and mood board to go along with it next week. Hope you enjoy what's coming!

The idea of moving to a big city is daunting. Of the 8.4 million people that encompass this place so many call home or have created a new home in, it is easy to become lost in the in-between of the chaotic, fast-paced business of an urban lifestyle, especially as just an eighteen-year-old simply with a need for something new. But as friendships are created, it takes on a medicinal role, providing aid and warmth to a city that can become suddenly cold and frigid within a moments notice, both in temperature and temper. Whether it’s through enjoying delectable meals together, or simply walking around, exploring the beauty and opportunities a city like New York has to offer, it is new in a multitude of ways for each individual, whether they come from fifty or fifty-thousand miles away. The simplicity of even staying in, laughing, playing games, just conversing with friends all going through the same life stage at the same time is dazzling - we are all just figuring it out as we go. As I write this, I can still recall the feeling in my stomach as I try to contain myself from laughing so much from a friend’s joke or the first meals I was truly amazed by upon my arrival in the city in August. We get the chance to watch the stunning allure of the day softly transition to the dark mystique of the night, to watch the seasons change rapidly from spring to summer to autumn to winter. Each of these things, as mundane as they may seem, combine to make up the memories of what we will look back on as the time we grew out of our childhood and into the scary world of adulthood. Friendship keeps us firmly rooted in what is truly important in a life that easily becomes overwhelming and stressful. This is by far one of the most important lessons I have learned in my time living in such a place as New York City. By finding and investing in the worthwhile friendships that I know will be there through the calm and the storm, I know that this is what I will remember twenty years from now, when my childhood and college years are nothing but a distant, beautiful memory.
